Hike to Maglic, the highest peak of Bosnia & Herzegovina

Maglic is the highest peak of Bosnia and Herzegovina at its height of 2386m above sea level and the summit of Maglic can be reached from Prijevor or the Vucevo plateau. The most remarkable and main peak of Maglic is called Little Maglic that dominates above the Perucica virgin wood on one side, while on the other side its cliffs hang above the beautiful and unique Trnovacko Lake.The grassy plateau around the Trnovacko Lake is the best and optimal place for camping before and after climbing of the Maglic peaks.The first section of the route is positioned on the paved road, and then follows the unpaved road and short thoroughfare section. The last 2.5 km from Prijevor at an elevation of 1650m to Maglic peak is for hiking only. From Prijevor to Maglic peak the elevation gain is 700m. The very steep, rocky and exposed hiking path is labeled.The ascent of Maglic (2,386m) will take approximately four hours, trailing through steep cliffs. From the Maglic peak we will enjoy magnificent view down to Trnovacko Lake and Montenegro.The next section leads to Trnovacko Lake in Montenegro and it will take approximately three hours to descend. That’s the place where we will meet up with the rest of the group, returning together with cherished memories of the unforgettable experience that you will want to repeat

Itinerary

Day One:
A road trip of about two hours through canyons and deep forests we pass into Bosnia and Herzegovina’s oldest National Park. We continue on the mountain road until Donje Bare where we leave our vehicle behind. On our way to Ugljesin Peak (1.858m), we pass the Lake Donje Bare that is covered with thick forest on one side and panoramic mountain meadows on the other. From here, Maglic (2,386m) and Volujak (2,336 m) masts above us as we look down the 1,200m deep canyon of the Sutjeska River. We return via Gornje Bare to the hut to complete a marvelous a four-hour hike. A relaxing evening and dinner party when we return back to the hotel, Mladost
Day Two:
On day two you can choose a strenuous hike (4 hrs.) up to Maglic summit, or a moderate hike (2 hrs.) to Trnovacko Lake.It is first about a 1-hour drive to the Perucica National Park where Bosnia’s highest peak, Magic, is located.The Maglic massif has two peaks, Big Maglic (2388 m) and Small Maglic (2386m).Together with other surrounding mountains, Bioc and Volujak, the Maglic massif forms a mountain group that is lined with deep river canyons. Until the elevation at 1600m you can find a mixture of beech and profound forest, while above that elevation are placed grassy plateaus and rocky peaks.Then we stop at Dragos Saddle for an amazing view of one of two medieval rainforests in Europe, focusing our attention on a waterfall that’s plunging down 75 meters to the beech forest of Perucica.
